Atheism is not a rare intellectual position, fiercely anti-clerical. Nor is it a philosophical doctrine that needs to be demonstrated or justified refined and abstruse arguments. And of course, atheism is not at all immoral posture. However, if you listen to the messages that we have dedicated the Pope on his recent visit to Spain, or that spread in Britain, one gets the impression that the world is seriously threatened by a devilish doctrine defended atheists and secularists.
Atheists today are very educated people who respect other people there who like to take irrational beliefs that they do not share. In fact, atheists do not have to work hard to defend its intellectual position, what I do find it difficult to understand that a believer is assumed as properties of divinity, and without major problems, much more amazing things that the children attributed to Santa Claus.
is true that atheists prefer secularism in public life, namely, that laws are not religious and public authorities do not grant privileges to members of any religious denomination. But nobody should be surprised by this: the historical experience shows that the mixture of religious and political power has only served to provoke wars and massacres, particularly in Christian Europe.
Many religious believers believe that if God does not exist everything is permitted, and are therefore unable to understand the moral value of atheism. But historical experience confirms On the contrary, is in God's name as the greatest atrocities have been committed to humanity. Atheists have an ethical responsibility very demanding because they do not have any excuse to justify an eventual forgiven or see immoral behavior.
If this is so, and I am convinced that it is, it's time to claim a basic right: the right of atheism, the right not to have to justify non-affiliation to any religious belief, the right to feel offended if someone, even the Pope or the Ayatollah more respectable, identifies atheism with evil, and that this intellectual and moral attitude is recognized and respected in the same manner and with the same rank, at least, that religious beliefs that the atheist does not accept for consider irrational, false and pernicious.
