Caesalpinia gilliesii, is a shrub belonging to the family Fabaceae . It is native to South America of Argentina and Uruguay , although it has been naturalized in Texas .

is very wide and reaches about 2 m high, unarmed to branches pubescent and glandular. impari-bipinnate leaves, multifolioladas, glabrous, 6 to 28 cm, with stipules broad, oval-lanceolate, ciliate, papyraceous, persistent, with pinnae opposite, alternate, about 6 to 14 pairs, 1.5 to 3 cm. Leaflets , 6 to 13 pairs of pineapple, oblong-ovate, glabrous. Flores grouped in clusters pyramidal terminal, corymbose . The fruit is a legume linear subfalcate, compressed, beaked, pubescent and punctate-glandular, hard, dry, 5-10 x 1,5-2 cm, straw-colored and with opening band. Seeds compressed, 9 mm -12.5
is a fast growing plant, it flowers in summer and has high resistance to drought.
